The ladies twos started the league as they mean to go on with a dominant performance over Letchworth. Pushing forward from the start, with only 6 minutes gone, Katie Jackson struck powerfully from a short corner, a deflection looping it over the keeper. This was followed 30 seconds later with a goal swept home by Emily Smith. Continuing to push forward, Smith found the backboard again in the 9th minute, before player of the match Lucie Webster joined in the scoring in the 12th and 17th minutes. Some overly-enthusiastic defending from the front resulted in a green card for Sarah Ayres for not retreating 5 yards before tackling a player after conceding a free hit. The half continued in the same vein, with strong defending from Leighton supporting the attacking efforts. Jackson found the backboard twice more to complete her hattrick, and Siobhan Hennessey joined the scorers to make it 8-0 at halftime. Letchworth came back strongly in the second half, with a better defensive performance denying Leighton more often. Hennessey slotted home two goals to join Jackson on a hattrick, and to bring Leighton to double figures. Letchworth responded, and Leighton's defence and keeper were called into action, with clearances off the line ensuring a clean sheet. The final score puts the ladies 2s top of the league, and in a good position going into a clash with Tring next week.
