A home win over Hertford

Leighton Buzzard ladies 2s continued to put pressure on league leaders Blueharts with 4-0 win against Hertford. In cold and blustery conditions Leighton Buzzard created numerous chances in the first half but struggled to take advantage of them. They eventually broke the deadlock from a well rehearsed short corner pushed out by Lucie Webster who used her youthful pace to follow in and slot home at the near post. Webster was unlucky not to double her goal tally as half time approached, with her goal being disallowed due to an earlier infringement. The final action of the half saw another short corner for Leighton. A strike from Katie Jackson saw Suzy Mounter make a great run into the middle but her deflection went the wrong side of the crossbar.

The second half saw Leighton struggle to further their lead with some good pressure from Hertford. After a quiet first half goal keeper Amber Kelly ensured Leighton held onto their slim lead with a solid performance in goal, outstretched she smothered the ball from a Hertford opportunity. As the defence held firm this gave Leighton the chance to create opportunities. A great break down the left by Emily Smith and a perfectly weighted pass to Clare Farrow allowed her to square the ball quickly to Siobhan Hennessy who neatly slotted the ball past the keeper. The two goal cushion gave Leighton the chance to continue pushing forward, extending their lead with another well worked short corner out to Katie Jackson who struck the ball cleanly to the near post where Webster slid in to find the back of the net.
Player of the match Webster competed her hattrick with another finish from a short corner with the last touch of the game. This time the ball went out to Smith and Webster finished with a anther slide into the near post. Another good win leaves Leighton second and full of confidence going into next Saturday's top of the table clash.
