Promoted!!!

The ladies 2s secured promotion with an emphatic win away at Hertford. A few early nerves showed, with a good ball by Hertford making it to their speedy winger who put the opposition ahead. However, the goal seemed to settle Leighton, with defenders Andii Chandler, Lisa Patrick and Suzy Mounter working to neutralise the high players, and keeper Amber Kelly making some good saves. This helped Leighton to start to up the pressure. Chrissie Dixon and Kyrsty Hardy in the middle distributed the ball out to the wings, bringing wingbacks Emily Smith, Gemma Jones and Chloe Alecock into play, who put some great balls into the D for the forwards to work with. With Leighton now relaxing into the play, 10 minutes in, some well-worked play resulted in the ball falling to Siobhan Hennessy in the D who levelled the score. The second came from Katie Jackson shortly after, dribbling into the D and taking the opportunity to put Leighton ahead. The half had more opportunities in it, with Sharon Avola and Lucie Webster both battling hard to create chances, but the score remained 2-1 at halftime. The second half saw Leighton really take the reigns of the game. Leighton held high on the pitch, with the midfield including Clare Farrow ensuring the ball remained in the attacking half, supported by the defenders stepping in to control the play. The pressure resulted in many opportunities, and gave Hennessy the chance to take 2 more goals for her hattrick. Sarah Ayres was unlucky to have a goal disallowed for an earlier infringement, before Jackson scored a trademark short corner to make it 5-1. Hertford rallied, winning a series of short corners, but Leighton managed those with ease, before creating one last goal for player of the match Jackson to complete her hattrick. The ladies 2s' final match is a top of the table clash against Blueharts; with both teams having secured promotion it promises to be a great match!
