Confident home win gives cause for optimism

The pre match warm up, under the covered shelter, set the scene for some great cooperation and teamwork. Pete inspired us with a great pep talk, setting out the set moves and targets for the game.

The 'damp' conditions did not hold us back, with some strong passing and pressing up into the opposition's half. Although there was some need for strong defensive play, the ball soon made it's way into the D and Mel steamed in with a superb goal.
Stevenage pressed hard for the next 10mins. They had some lucky touches, leading to a shot on goal. Jo claimed it and cleared it out to the side. Within seconds, it had made its way to Emily S, who took it in for the second goal. The rest of the half continued with some amazing speed from Scarlett, gritty defence by all and some excellent positioning on the press.

The half time talk was full of positives and we stepped up for the restart.

Stevenage obviously didn't want to mess around and pressed really hard towards goal. Jemima defended tenaciously and the ball was cleared away. This continued for a while, with the defence working overtime, but before long, Rachel took the ball up the pitch, along with Emily D and set up a superb position for attack. Chrissie and Anna created a solid space mid field, the ball switched sides, and a flurry of excellent passes allowed Sharon to take command. A short corner was awarded and, with a second that quickly followed, Sharon tucked it home.

The last quarter showed some great defence and attack. Strong passing allowed us to be in control and we continued to press our advantage.
With us mainly camped in their half, another short corner was awarded. Anna struck it solidly home for our fourth goal.
The game finished shortly after that, every player having worked hard, together, to make the best result possible.

FINAL score 4-0.
