Ladies 2s find their stride against Welwyn

Leighton started brightly looking to put the disappointment from last week's defeat to Cheshunt firmly behind them. Some slick interplay between Emma Claggett, Katie Jackson and Sharon Avola was superbly finished by Mel Merola at the back post after just five minutes.

What followed was wave after wave of attacking play by Buzzard with Rachel Lambert Forsyth and Nell Maze Brown dominating the right flank. From one such run Nell pulled the ball back to win a free hit outside the attacking D , Anna Carter passed the ball to Katie Jackson who rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the D after just 13 minutes.

A minute later and Buzzard added a third and Jackson's second from a penalty flick. The short corner was not successfully cleared until it hit the defender's foot on the line. Jackson finished into the corner from the flick.

On the 18th minute Jackson secured her hat trick after a Mazey run from the 23 following good work from Emma Evans and Carter to what could be a club record hat trick in 5mins and 40 seconds .

Four nil at half time but it could and should have been a lot more with the number of chances that came and went.

After the break, Welwyn looked to hit Buzzard on the break using the pace of their centre midfield which resulted in a series of short corners. From one corner, the committed captain Ellen Baldwin was injured from a lifted shot. This meant a reshuffled was required and Leighton lost some fluidity. Buzzard did manage to add a fifth through Sharon Avola perfectly slotting it thought the keepers legs .

Plenty of positives to take from the game but also a surprisingly level of disappointment after a 5-0 victory as they knew if they'd been more clinical there were more goals to be had.

But with three points in the bag, Leighton will look to build on the positives from this performance at Broxbourne next week.
