Leighton Buzzard vs Broxbourne

Leighton Buzzard Ladies 2s stepped out onto a wet and windy pitch looking to blow away Christmas cobwebs and start the new year with a win. With a squad representing the young and the ever so slightly older player, they started well, in the front foot from the off. After several chances that they didn't quite manage to put away, Katie Jackson scored before half time with a beautiful strike from a short corner. Several more chances came and went before half time with Leighton holding on to a 1-0 lead. A slow start after the break resulted in a goal on the break from Broxbourne, however Leighton did not panic. The midfield and defence worked tirelessly to provide the forward line with balls to compliment their excellent positioning and create chances. One such chance was converted by Sharon Avola after lovely linking play on the right hand side of the pitch. Leighton then went on to convert another short corner, with Sharon Avola again finding the back board. From that point Leighton only ever looked like winning the game. An impressive performance from the youngsters in the squad, supported by those who used to be classed as youngsters not so long ago, and the more 'experienced' players resulted in a 3-1 win.
