West Herts Ladies 4th XI vs. Leighton Ladies 3rd XI

Saturday’s fixtures saw the Leighton Ladies 3rd team taken on rivals West Herts who last season just pipped Leighton to second place in the league. Leighton had a shaky start, conceding a goal within the first ten minutes. Leighton were soon to reply to this through some great runs up the wing and brilliant channelling making West Herts make some simple mistakes and giving Leighton their first chances in the oppositions D. Unfortunately for Leighton this pressure was not sustained and West Herts were able to score two more goals in quick succession. Leighton were soon back in the driving seat and a goal mouth scramble resulted in Becca Smith finding the back board to put Leighton on the score board. Once again however Leighton were unable to keep this pressure and West Herts were able to make the score 4-1 leading into the half time break.

A re-focused Leighton team came out fighting in the second half and some strong tackling and slick passing from captain, and Player of the Match, Suzy Mounter forced chances in the Hert’s D. Unfortunately Leighton were not able to make the most of these. As the half wore on Leighton were unable to keep crack the Herts defence, who were quick to add two more goals to their total before the end of the half.
