Shefford & Sandy 3rd XI vs. Leighton Ladies 3rd XI

Leighton ladies were away to league-leaders Shefford and Sandy third team for the first time this season.

Shefford and Sandy were quick to advance on the Leighton defence at the start of the first half, with the away team conceding a quick goal to the host team. Coming back, Leighton played well making use of the width of play open to them and breaking up the Shefford play.

Despite Shefford having several short-corner opportunities in the first half, Leighton gave out strong defensive play that enabled the away team to break away from the Shefford D.

By half time the score was 2-0 to the home team, with Leighton looking to level the score board in the second half.

The second half started well for the away team and throughout the half Leighton demonstrated excellent attacking and organised defence. Brilliant passing from the left wing into the centre saw Lauren Avery make well-timed runs, taking the ball towards the Shefford goal on multiple occasions.

A short corner in the second half for Leighton Buzzard saw a chance on goal, which was defended well by Shefford and Sandy. The home team was lucky with two quick goals in the second half, leaving the final score at 4-0.

Player of the match for Leighton was Lauren Avery, well deserved for her efforts throughout both halves. Next week Leighton host Potters Bar Ladies 2nd team.
