Welwyn 2nd XI vs. Leighton Ladies 3rd XI

Leighton Ladies faced Welwyn away this week, coming up against the team for the second and last time this season. In the previous match Leighton were beaten 6-0, so were looking to come back strong in this second meeting.

Leighton started the first half with good a good attack on the opposition, some great runs down the wing, utilising the ball speed and easily getting it round the players. Unfortunately, despite very good defensive play, Welwyn sneaked in an early goal that was narrowly missed by Leighton. After this small set-back, Leighton pushed hard against Welwyn putting pressure on their midfield and defensive line with shots towards the goal but being deflected off the back line.

Another quick goal for Welwyn left the score at 2-0 at the end of the first half.

Coming back into the second half, Leighton played very well and consistently broke up the Welwyn play. Leighton dominated the play but unfortunately the attempts made did not come off. After some brilliant defending by the Leighton side after a short corner, it seemed a ball was stopped on the line by a foot so a penalty flick was given. This was scored and brought the score to 3-0 to Welwyn.

Overall, the Leighton side played a strong game with determination and effort from the whole team, clearly demonstrated by the considerably smaller goal difference in comparison to the previous meet between these two teams. At the final whistle the score was 3-0 to Welwyn. Man of the match was award to Lauren Avery for her consistent hard work and attacking skill.
