Leighton Ladies 3rd XI vs. Letchworth Ladies 3rd XI

Leighton ladies 3rd XI hosted Letchworth 3rd XI on Saturday, facing the side for the second time this season. Having been defeated 2-0 at the last meeting Leighton were looking for a win, although the home team were apprehensive following a break where many of their scheduled matches had been postponed due to frozen pitches.

Opening  the game Letchworth had first push-back and early on Leighton saw their goal under attacked, but the well organised defence team from Katie Fitzpatrick, Caroline Hill and Amber Kelly ensured that Letchworth were not able to convert their attempts to goals.

Towards the end of the first half Leighton broke away from the Letchworth defence with forwards Lauren Avery, Lottie Hayman and Zara Rogers making fantastic runs into the Letchworths defensive 25 for opportunities on goal. Sadly, despite shots on target and short corners awarded to Leighton none were able to be converted.

Coming into the second half at 0-0 still, Leighton kept the pressure on the away side. It was clear throughout the second half that both teams were evenly matched as possession switched between the teams with no one side dominating.

A few clashes of heads in the mid-field saw two bullys between the teams with Leighton winning the first and Letchworth gaining possession from the second.

At the end of the game the score stayed at 0-0 which was frustrating for the home team, but certainly an improvement from the last meeting and a welcome point for the league table. Man of the match was deservedly awarded to Goalkeeper Amber Kelly for her impressive, dynamic defence work.
