2 -1

This Saturday Leighton Buzzard ladies third team travelled to Potters Bar to face the team for the return fixture. Now approaching the end of the season, Leighton were eager to follow the previous victory with another win to lift the team away from the relegation spots.

Leighton won the toss and chose first push back. The team started in a strong position putting the pressure on the home team, making use of all the players with short accurate passing between the team to maintain possession and making light work of attacking the opposition. Potters Bar then seized an opportunity when they broke the Leighton play and made headway towards Leightons defensive 25. A shot across the goal from Potters Barr was mistakenly knocked-in by Leighton giving Potters Barr the opening lead and setting the score at 1-0.

Keen to level the score board, Leighton came back from the centre push back pushing hard, with the majority of the play in the home teams defensive half. A fantastic goal from captain Suzy Mounter from a short corner made sure that Leighton were still in with a chance and as the half time whistle blew the scores were even 1-1.

Potters Bar took the push back going into the second half but Leighton's attack was quick to react, intercepting the away teams possession. Potters Barr made use of their right wing heavily in the second half, regularly driving the ball down to make attempts into the Leighton D which they were unable to convert to goals because of great work from the defence and goalkeeper.

The play soon moved back to Leighton's favour and a short corner awarded to the away team gave the side an opportunity to push ahead. The pass from Becca Smith was well received by Suzy Mounter at the top of the D where it was sent back to the post for Becca to brilliantly smash into the Potters Bar goal.

Potters Bar sought for a equaliser, but Leighton were able to maintain possession and the game ended with Leighton winning 2-1. With this win, Leighton 3's were out of the relegation zone but just need to keep it up for the final matches. Man of the match was deservedly awarded to Becca Smith for tirelessly working hard and a brilliant goal. It is also worth noting the team worked incredibly hard as a whole and played their best all the way to the end despite some 'interesting' decisions given.
