Leighton Buzzard Ladies 3s faced Royston's 2nd team at home on Saturday in a crucial game where the result would decide Leighton's position in the division. Knowing if they won they would be spared relegation, the Leighton side were ready to battle to do all they could to stay up and hold their position for the next season.

Leighton began the first half well, holding possession and easily sending the the ball around the Royston players. An early goal from Kayleigh Pottage saw Leighton got ahead. Royston were quick to start again, but Leighton worked to regain possession and put pressure on the side. Two more goals followed in the first half from Becca Smith and Zara Rogers, showing some of the best play all year from the Leighton side.

As the first half came to a close the score sat at 3-0 to the home team.

Starting the second half, Leighton pushed on keen to make sure that Royston did not close the gap on the score board. Unfortunately a high ball from a Royston flick saw the ball drop into the goal, with the score now 3-1. Aware of the importance of the game, the home team stepped up again, battling into the Royston goal. Despite several well positioned and strong attempts, Leighton were unable to push through the away team's defence.

As the second half came to a close the score remained 3-1 to Leighton, who were delighted with the win they needed to stay in the league and to end on a positive high.

Man of the match went to Kayleigh Pottage for her brilliant play and continual effort throughout the game. It is worth saying that all of the ladies played tremendously and fought to the end.
