Small away trip brings well worked reward.

Looking to get back on track and pick up some points, the Mighty 3’s made the small journey to face newly promoted and current league leaders, Milton Keynes 5’s. The day didn’t have the best of starts with two of the selected team not turning up but the Mighty 3’s pulled together and came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders regardless.

With the lack of a recognised GK, Georgie Hoskins-Franklin stepped up to the mark once again; a job that he is proving to be more than competent at and dangerously close to making his own.

After a fairly evenly matched first 5 minutes of the game, Leighton started to play to their strengths and on 8:32, the Mighty 3’s forwards teamed up as a Tommi Lakins pass across goal was met by a delightful reverse stick from Jack Gotzheim and Leightons 1st goal of the day. With the goal came confidence and under more and more pressure from Leighton’s rotating wingers of Kane Sanders, Alex Dashwood and Howard Gregory, the MK defence pressed higher up the pitch looking to make a break and an equaliser. As they did so and with about 20 minutes on the clock, Tommi L showed some magical individual skills to break through the MK defence before rounding the lonely keeper and netting Leighton’s 2nd. Panic appeared to spread amongst the MK defence who just a few minutes later, fumbled the ball on the ½ way line which was pounced on by Jack G who then ran straight towards the keeper, almost went too far to the right before scooping the ball into the back of the net for Leighton’s 3rd of the day.

Half time blown and the Mighty 3’s go in 0-3 up.

Milton Keynes started the second half with a purpose and whilst the back line of Chris Walters, Dave ‘Onehand’ Wavish and Grant McWalter soaked up most of the pressure, MK finally managed to pull one back on 43 minutes to make the score 1-3. Leighton regrouped and with the midfielders of David Hooker, Dan Lambuet and Oliver Parren taking control of the middle of the pitch, the Mighty 3’s opened up the MK defence once again for Tommi to show off more silky skills and put another past the MK GK. At 1-4, with the 3 goal cushion restored and confidence riding high, LBHC started to dominate winning a few penalty corners in the process. One of which with about 5 minutes to go, Leighton finally got it right when the ball went out to Tommi, then to Howard and was finally slotted in by Lambuet.

1-5 the final score. A convincing away victory and the Mighty 3’s back on track.
