Solid Defensive Platform allows Attacking Play to Flourish

Promising start for the ladies 2s; new centre back pairing of Llinos Coleman and Neve Cox had an exceptional game, with Neve in particular passing her way out of defence with great accuracy. This allowed wing backs Tara Galloway and Jemima Storey to get forward regularly and support the attack, giving it width.

Positive play from Galloway started the move that led to Leighton's opener, which was fired home by Chrissie Dixon after clever work in the D by Sarah Ayres. The home side doubled their advantage after 25 minutes when Olivia Pirnie played the ball across to the left post for Scarlett Levett to fire home.

Leighton started well after the break and following further good work from Ayres the excellent Anna Carter scored with a powerful strike. A resilient Stowe side pulled one goal back when a cruel deflection took the ball wide of Leighton's keeper Sharon Avola who had been faultless in her command of the D. But Leighton responded well with Mel Merola taking the game to the opposition. Leighton's wide players, Emily Smith and Emily Dundas stretched the opposition and Dixon used the space to set up Carter for her second of the game.

Lottie Hayman added some more impetus to the attack and after winning the ball Leighton broke forward, as the ball bounced around the D, Dixon seized her chance for a second and thumped the ball home.

Though as with any new side there is work to be done it was a very promising start to the 2018 campaign.
