Leighton took on high flying Bishops Stortford looking to leapfrog them into the promotion places. Leighton started brightly controlling the game with possession being transferred well stretching the opposition. Bishops Stortford's only chances in the first half came from minor lapses in concentration and Leighton were frustrated to go into half time all square.
Leighton came out in the second half looking to make their dominance count. They were soon one goal up when Lucie Webster powered the ball into the bottom corner after 45 minutes after a well measured pass from Mel Merola.
The midfield quartet of Webster, Merola, Katie Jackson and Emma Shutte linked up superbly with Terri Payton and Sharon Avola up front, meaning that they were controlling the game. However Leighton knew that a one goal lead was fragile and needed a second to settle their nerves after letting in late goals in previous weeks. It finally came with two minutes left when Leighton were awarded a hit on the centre spot, Webster drove into space before finding Jackson 25 yards out. After an exquisite first touch wrong footed the Bishops Stortford defender she drove into the D and rifled a shot into the bottom corner.
Three more points and Leighton are now joint second. They will look to continue their winning run away at Rickmansworth next week.
