Leighton looked to continue their impressive early season form by hosting second in the league Oxford Hawks on a rainy Saturday morning.
Leighton started the game with real intensity and high pressing from Tristan Hardy and Tommy Lakins led to an opening for Mark Stephenson which he calmly slotted away. With Oxford stunned and blinded by the rain and Leightons pace up front, a second goal soon followed from Chris Marshall. Seconds later, Leighton were 3-0 up, courtesy of Tommy Lakins. There were not even 10 minutes on the clock when Mark Stephenson added his second of the game, to leave Leighton 4-0 up.
Leighton controlled the rest of the first half with no additional goals following on from the 10 minute demolition job from Leightons forwards.
There was a small lapse of concentration from the home sides defence to give Oxford a moment of hope, leaving the score at 4-1. However the door was emphatically slammed shut by Tommy Lakins, who glided into the opposition 'D', created space for himself and calmly slotted in his second of the day.
Leighton saw out the remaining 10 minutes of the game to leave them closing in on top of the league.
Final score 5-1.
