Off the back of an unfortunate defeat in their last game, Leighton Buzzard bounced back and rose to the occasion against West Hampstead in a resounding 3-1 victory.
From the off, Leighton pressed effectively high up the pitch forcing the opposition into errors. First blood came through a short corner, in which a deft deflection by Martin Bailey from a Tim Bellamy strike made the ball soar past the West Hampstead goalkeeper. Jim Galloway and Tom O'Reilly coped well from with any West Hampstead short corners throughout the game. Leighton were unlucky not to score from a well executed Chris Bourne drag flick, meaning at half time the score stayed 1 nil.
Dave Jackson and Steve Fuller continued winning valuable short corners into the second half, one of which Bellamy converted with a thumping strike into the bottom corner. Play was temporarily paused after a clash of heads with Dan Wright and a West Hampstead defender left Wright's opposite number concussed. Not long after, Man of the Match Laurence Leech capitalised on a poor West Hampstead clearance and slotted past the keeper. Leighton were unlucky to concede with 10 minutes left after a commanding display from Will Riley and Liam Wavish at the heart of the defence, leaving the score 3-1 in Leighton's favour at the final whistle.
