Leighton Buzzard Mens 3 6 - 3 Maidenhead Monarchs

From the push off Leighton took the game to the opposition and within 5 minutes Tommy Lakins pick up the ball in the visitors half and drove into the opposition's D to score an unstoppable goal. Leighton pushed again and the pressure told with Tommy Lakins again driving into the D to score Leighton's second with in 10 minutes. This obviously unsettled what is usually a strong Maidenhead team and the Leighton Defence was not troubled until well in to the latter stages of the first half. In between times Leighton had pushed forward and Alex Brindle scored his first of the match. Shortly after the restart and following a spell of pressure from the visitors, which the Leighton defence dealt with easily, the Leighton midfield broke away and a pass from Dave Hooker found Alex Brindle who scored for his second.
From the start of the second half Maidenhead applied pressure and following a short corner pressure told and they scored. However Leighton did not fold they reasserted their dominance by storming down the pitch with Tommy Lakin's completing his hat trick. As the second half moved on Leighton now lost a little of their formation discipline which resulted in Maidenhead coming back and scoring from open play when the Leighton defence was caught up field. They then scored again from a short corner despite the titanic efforts of the Leighton defence to keep the ball out. Now Leighton woke up to the danger of a resurgent Maidenhead and after a period of sustained pressure Alex Brindle scored to complete his hat trick to see the game out for a well deserved Leighton victory. It was a great team effort.
