MK deserved their win. The Men's 3's played as if they were taking part in a John Cleese Management video - in other words how not to do it! The game started off with both sides probing but not gaining dominance and then all of a sudden parts of Leighton's defence seemed to disappear up field leaving a wing vulnerable to attack. So twice in the space of six minutes the Leighton Centre back and Goal keeper were left stranded and MK were two goals up. Thanks to the efforts of Chris Walter, the young MK forwards did not penetrate too far in to the Leighton penalty area for most of the rest of the first half but Leighton themselves were no more effective. The team displayed an inability to put two passes together; passes were over hit, tackling was timid and the team never kept its shape and generally looked lethargic.
Despite all the talk at half time from the team themselves they did not keep to the "plan" . The second half was goalless, this was down to the youngsters of MK getting tired and a slight improvement in the Leighton approach. However players were still out of position, simple passes were not controlled and we were unable to achieve anything positive with the short corners we were awarded. Leighton were lucky not to concede further.
Although that this was not the strongest Mens3s team they should have been able to cope with the opposition particularly if the team entertains any ideas of promotion.
