Leighton Mens 3s continue on their winning ways.

Leighton hoped to continue the way they finished last week with their 8-0 thrashing of Wycombe however early on in the game this seemed an unlikely pipe dream. Leighton started with only 10 men and despite some spirited attacks into the Aylesbury half the opposition were able to contain it and put the Leighton defence under pressure. In the 9th minute this resulted in a short corner for the opposition which despite some positive defending the opposition managed to squeeze the ball home between the Goal Keeper and a defender. However things changed with the arrival of our eleventh man. Leighton were able to go onto the attack and from a resulting short corner Tommy Lakins shot home the Leighton equaliser. Now Leighton began to show their true form and wave after wave of attacked tore through the Aylesbury defence. A loose ball on the edge of the visitors penalty area was taken up by Lakins who successfully beat two tackles to sweep the ball home for Leighton's second in the 15th minute. The Leighton attacks continued. The visitors desperate defending ended up with a penalty flick being awarded to Leighton which Stu Hart successfully converted in the 20th minute. And still Leighton ravaged the Aylesbury defence but could not convert all their chances. then in the 30th minute Dan Lambert pushed a pass into the visitors penalty area where Dave Jackson who had been playing doggedly with an injury swept home Leighton's fourth.

The second half started very much like the first and the pressure told in the 40th minute when an attack in the visitors half saw the ball seemingly bounce off of several players sticks before Lakins calmly slotted home for his third and Leighton's fifth. Then for the next twenty minutes or so the game changed - Leighton feeling safe at 5-1 went to sleep. Although the visitors became more active in the second half they only scored one goal due to some good defending by Chris Walter. In the last five minutes of the half Leighton emerged from their torpor and with less then a minute to go Lakins picked up the ball on the left tore into the opponents penalty area and with an emphatic shot scored Leighton's sixth. It was a good team performance - again and difficult to name a man of the match.

MoM: Dan Lambert
