This was billed as the grudge match of the season for the Men's 3s - all police leave cancelled Ambulances on standby and blood banks at the ready. The truth is dear reader that it was a game played in very good spirits ( not the alcoholic type!). From the start a very strong Milton Keynes team pressed an again much changed Leighton side. For the first ten minutes it looked as if MK might get the upper hand but a move down the middle and a smart pass towards the left found young James Trumper in the MK penalty area where he smashed home Leighton's first (12 minute). From the restart MK fought back but despite some moments of consternation in the Leighton defensive structure Leighton held firm. Following the award of a short corner the ball fell to Tommy Lakins for the first of his hat trick when he slotted the ball home emphatically to give Leighton breathing space (17 minute|). However following another MK attack they were awarded a penalty flick which the Leighton Keeper just failed to stop ( 25 minute). This goaded Leighton into the attack with Tommy Lakins scoring his second ( 31 minute) just before half time.
The second half started with Leighton dominating possession in midfield and this led to a pass on the left to Lakins who took the ball into the MK penalty area passed two players to score Leighton's fourth ( 42 minute), and his third, from a very acute angle. MK pressed and the game moved back and forth mainly in the midfield area until MK managed to break through a resolute Leighton defence to score their second. From that point to the end of the game Leighton held their own and came away with a well deserved victory. A good team effort from, again a much changed side that has put the Mens3s back on the road to a possible promotion slot.
A game that was well umpired and generally played in a good spirit.
