Leighton Men's 3s 1-2 Staines 4s

Well Dear and Committed Reader for the last but one time this season I come to you with news of our latest game. As Staines came to Leighton needing a point to avoid relegation we knew they would fight hard and with a strong team that belied their league position that's what they did. The trouble was that, as seems boringly the same mantra each week, Leighton fielded a strong but changed team. The result was B&B - Beautiful but Brittle.
Leighton started strongly and within 5 minutes were ahead following the taking of a short corner by Stuart Hart who injected the ball into the area for Tom Lakins to strike home This seemed to ignite the strong Staines attack and within 5 minutes Staines were level through the netting of a short corner. For the next twenty minutes or so Leighton began to achieve a mastery of sort and were pressing Staines back into their area but could not score then, on a sudden break away, followed by the award of a short corner Staines were able, luckily, to convert From the restart Leighton pushed but the half finished.

The second half saw no further scoring it did however see, what was apparent in the first half - the Beautiful but Brittle aspects of our game. At times the Leighton ball work was absolutely brilliant but it was the brittleness of our passing and movement; of our failure to always being able to string a number of passes together and not move to the pass and too much hit and hope. The good thing was that the defence held together to keep Staines away from making any further serious attacks in the second half. A defeat which has seriously dented our promotion hopes.
