Eastcote victory shadowed by goal of the century..... by Howard Gregory

Leighton Buzzard travelled to Eastcote with some new found confidence after last weeks victory, but Eastcote weren’t going to make thing easy.

Heading to an away fixture with 12 regular 3rd team players was a positive start, especially with youth on our side - Dominic Thelwell, Jack Gotzheim & Jordon Field - unfortunately it wasn’t going to be enough as Eastcote started very positively resulting in them gaining an early goal.

Leighton Buzzard continued to make some positive breaks with many players putting themselves on the line, this resulted in Howard Gregory getting behind the defence unmarked to score a reverse flick goal to the top of the goal, which surprised not only the goalkeeper but the rest of the Leighton Buzzard team.

At 1-1 Eastcote applied further pressure, although they faced some solid defending from Grant McWalter, David Wavish and Jason Thelwell their persistence paid off and just before half time they took the lead.

The start of the second half saw Eastcote score again and it was become more apparent that Leighton Buzzard needed something special and Dan Lambert obliged with a goal from a short corner.

Eastcote had a better first touch and it was becoming harder and harder to play around them and after some questionable umpiring several team members became more vocal and it was quite apparent Eastcote had got under certain players skin. It was quite literally getting out of hand for Mr Wavish....

Many of the umpiring decisions continued to be challenged and several Leighton Buzzard players felt they had to appeal for fouls rather than focusing on the game and playing to the whistle...

Eastcote may have deserved the victory with some aggressive attacks but the score line isn’t a true reflection of the game and Leighton Buzzard had several chances, best coming from Chris Walters who hit the post.

Final score 5-2.
