Mighty Men's 3's away to Newbury & Thatcham 5

The mighty 3’s travelled to Newbury and Thatcham for a late push back.

The first half was dominated by LB with fine displays from Dan “the midfield general” Lambert who played the midfield role, dictating play, marshalling his troops and displaying a seasoned leadership role.

LB defended well, and won 3 short corners in quick succession, but despite the creativity of trying 3 different routines could not break through the opposition defence.

Howard “the wizard” Gregory playing on the right hand side seemed to move the ball from left to right, just through the power of thought, perplexed the Newbury defence on numerous occasions.

Oli and Chris playing up front worked tirelessly against the Newbury defence, with Oli narrowly missing the goal on at least 1 occasion.

However despite the efforts of LB, the first half finished 0-0.

The second half saw a renewed Newbury side coming out refreshed by their 4 subs, this was to be George’s finest hour, well 35 mins anyway.

Wave upon wave battered the LB defence, but the wall that consisted of Dave Wavish, James Gregory and Jason Thelwell absorbed pressure time after time.

When Newbury breached that magnificent defensive wall, there was George, diving left, diving right, saving the team.

Until finally Newbury scored.

A great display by LB, with superb performances from Dominic Thelwell, Jordan Field and Hooker.

However the whole game was overshadowed by an event that happened before the game had even been played. To his sons and others disgust Jason Thelwell turned up in socks and sandals, the fashion police were called and he picked the award for DoD.
