Leighton Ladies first pre-season game saw them take on Aylesbury Ladies away.
From the start of the game the visitors showed great confidences and were quick to get on the score sheet with Emily Smith scoring first. Some well worked attacking play enabled Leighton to win a short corner and Kirsty Scrivener was ready to pounce on the rebound to put Leighton two up. Leighton continued to dominate when in possession of the ball and before the half time whistle Lucie Webster’s hard work paid off as she nicked the ball away from the keeper and into the back of the net.
In the second half Leighton showed a relaxed but controlled attitude to the game with Mel Doublet picking out passes to Leighton’s wingers Charlotte Ashton and Gemma Jones, who in turn created some great attacking chances with Smith able to convert this for her second of the game. Aylesbury, however, were not ready to roll over and be steamed rolled by Leighton. Some quick break attacks gave the home team their chances to get on the score sheet, but Leighton’s ‘Player of the Match’ Andii Chandler was always on hand to mop up these attacks. Before the end of the second half Smith was able to add the icing to the cake by calmly slotting the ball through the Aylesbury keeper’s legs for her third goal of the game and Leighton’s fifth.
A confident start with lots to be pleased about by Leighton’s Ladies who will be looking for promotion this coming season.
