Post Crimbo win

On Saturday 9th January, the Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club ladies first team came back from the Christmas break to a nail biting 3-2 win against Broxbourne 2s.

The game began rather shakily, with Broxbourne taking an early lead after a lucky shot on target. Leighton Buzzard struggled to break through the Broxbourne defence and soon we were having to defend again - with two short corners and a lucky stop on the line from Carolyn Floyd. Not long after this, Broxbourne scored their second goal with a strong strike on goal. 2-0 down, Leighton Buzzard needed to up their game, and with Hollie Taylor demonstrating some well executed stick skills, we scored our first goal.

Despite fighting back, by half time the score remained at 2-1. We still had work to do!

The second half started and Leighton Buzzard were firmly on the war path - with more communication, accurate passing and strong tackles demonstrating that we meant business. Our second goal was a slick three moves; starting from a pass at the back across the pitch to Lisa Edwards, which opened up space to allow her to strike the ball all the way down to Hollie Taylor in the D, where she drew the goalie off her line and in a majestic sweep dodged round the keeper to place the ball firmly in the back of the goal.

The scoreline at 2-2, it was now a fight to the finish, with both teams desperate to score the winning goal. With five minutes to go, nothing had changed. However Leighton Buzzard were not ready to give up the fight and forced Broxbourne to defend. With less than 30 seconds left to play, we got a short corner! The whistle went and now all we had to do was score. Clare Fitzboyden lifted the ball at the goal only for it to be stopped by a well placed stick. Kirsty Scrivener was in the right place for the rebound and pushed the ball to victory. 3-2 to Leighton Buzzard!
