With the season drawing to a close the Ladies 1st team are fighting for every point in a mid table battle. This week saw them face local rivals Luton in what is always challenging both physically and mentally.
With their Captain Clare Fitzboydon unavailable a number of players stepped up to the mark. Gabbie Avola took over captaincy of the team and did well to hold the teams spirits high even though they unfortunately ended up on the back foot after the first 5 minutes when Luton scored the opening goal.
Ladies Player of the match this week went to Carolyn Floyd who was described as a "demon in defence" by the opposition; strong tackling and a high work rate prevented Luton from extending their lead.
One of Leighton stars in the making Megan Claggett had another brilliant game on the left, her legs never gave up.
Leighton worked hard to the end and after numerous shots and plays which fail to accumulate in a goal their determination and belief not to give up was rewarded in the last 30 seconds of the game. Hollie Taylor pushing home the equalizer.
