Leighton Buzzard Ladies 1st XI played host to St Albans 4's for the first game of the season. The home team really demonstrated quality hockey from the very start of the game. New players, Lauren Avery and Gemma Jones slotted in and played some great hockey.
Gabbie Avola started the goal scoring, which enable the team to build on their confident play and her second goal came quite quickly after a period of top quality attacking play.
Sarah Plummer demonstrated some fine runs upfront and came close to scoring several times. She finally slotted a goal away, which meant that the team went 3-0 up at half time.
The discipline demonstrated by Leighton Buzzard in executing their press was commended by the spectators. St Albans really had no answer to it and it enabled Leighton to keep in complete control of the game. The teams new keeper, Rachel O'Connor only touched the ball once.
The final goal came from Kirsty Scrivener to take the final result to 4-0. Player of the match this week was Kathy Connolly.
