Prior to this weeks fixture the ladies 1's hard work this season was paying off. They had managed to gain second in the league, with equal points to the top team Saffron Walden 2's.
The game started fast, which suited the Leighton attacking side. Leighton were controlling the game from the defence to attack with some beautiful crossing around the back and perfectly timed runs from the front line. Leighton's hard work was rewarded when Hollie Taylor picked up a bobbling ball in the attacking D and calmly dribbled past Lutons defence to slot home the opening goal 5 minutes in.
The nerves started to ease off and Leighton opened up the play, utilising their halves and showing their pace on the ball. The midfield dominated the centre of the pitch, player of the match Kirsty Scrivener having a brilliant game distributing the ball around the pitch. The Leighton side had a number of chances but were very unfortunate not to capitalise on these.
On a rare moment Luton managed to get the ball into the Leighton defensive half from a long ball splitting through the Leighton press and a top of the D belter saw the ball hitting the backboard; levelling the game to 1-1.
Not being deterred the Leighton side continued their attacking play but the same happened again, Luton had pulled the game to 1-2.
The second half saw no more goals from either side, however, Leighton had the better of the opportunities. This was an unfortunate result for the ladies 1's in their fight for promotion, however they still remain second in the league and next week face second from bottom St Albans 4's and hoping to secure 3 points.
