On a very wet and cold day the Ladies 1st XI played away to Hertford 1's. With an amazing start to the game as Captain Hollie Joyce scored within about 2 minutes, the team were feeling confident. That lasted for another couple of minutes when very quickly Hertford demonstrated that this was not going to be an easy game. They were quick and they were physical. This often sends the Ladies 1st XI into a slight meltdown but not this week. We continued to play hard and we looked to the umpires to protect us from some crunching tackles.
The opposition soon scored so we knew that we had to take the game to them. After having a foul on the line not called to our advantage, Katie Jackson put the next short corner away decisively.
With some great performances from players like Charlotte Ashton who was in her more comfortable position of left wing back and new play Sadie Carrington making some lovely runs the team have much to be proud of. Clare Fitzboydon converted a well deserved penalty flick to make it 3-2. Unfortunately the team couldn't hold on to the advantage and Hertford managed to score again to end the game on 3 - 3.
Player of the match Jo Wells.
