Leighton dominated the game from the off. They were rewarded with a calmly taken goal from Karmel Brazier in the first 10 minutes. Some lovely passing thrilled the crowd and Gabbie Avola slotted a second past the keeper. Not long before half time Leighton claimed a third goal from a penalty corner, Laura Browne ensuring the goal crossed the line (Just!).
Leighton came out confidently in the second half with lots of hard work from all areas of the pitch. Confident play in defence helped Leighton build successive attacks, the midfield moving the ball nicely and linking well with the forward line. Gabbie Avola capitalised on one of these well worked attacks, claiming her second of the game with a lovely strike on a tight angle. Leighton didn't let the lead go to their heads and continued playing some nice hockey, their fifth goal saw Kirsty Scrivener controlling a bobbling ball and steering it home. Leighton's day was slightly marred when they were caught on the break with only seconds to go and Hertford scored a consolation goal on the final whistle.
A great team performance and a well deserved POM for Georgie Knatchbull.
