Leighton Buzzard Ladies 1st XI took off on a dreary wet day to play current top of the table, Crostyx 1st XI. It was a slow journey and the team all arrived later than hoped but that didn’t deter or distract Leighton. It was like playing on a trampoline, compared to our home pitch and all the players adapted well.
Gabbie Avola scored first, which gave the team a real buzz and needed lift. Despite being under constant pressure Leighton Buzzard secured a short corner. It was the only one all game – but the team made the most of it, with Karmel slotting the ball in the back of the net. 2 – 0 at half time.
Crostyx were not going to go down quietly and attacked the D with drive and speed but the defense stayed strong with Asta making a number of crucial saves.
With a final break in the last 5 minutes, the defense held their breath as Gabbie drove the ball forward, she then slotted the ball left to Laura Browne, who definitely deliberately lifted the ball over the keeper!
3-1 to Leighton Buzzard!
Great team performance.
