Home team Hawks started confidently, with Leighton a bit slower to find their comfort zone. Once the passing and movement picked up, Leighton put some sustained pressure on the Hawks defence, with the forward line creating good chances and forcing the goalkeeper to make some quality saves. Leighton were rewarded with a goal midway though the half, a well struck penalty corner from Karmel putting the visitors ahead. Leighton created several more chances, with some lovely moves building from the back.
In the second half again Hawks started strongly, clearly having a half time plan to put in place. Some great saves from Leighton GK Asta and some commanding defending in front of her kept the attacks at bay and Leighton kept the lead. Leighton again picked up the momentum and made some fantastic forward moves, switching the ball around in the midfield and badgering the Hawks defence with a never give up attitude that forced the turnover to Leighton’s advantage. One such moment from Gabbie lead to a fast attack that saw a rebound fall to Laura Browne who slotted the ball home to put Leighton two ahead.
Leighton continued to play strongly with Hawks on the back foot, however an attack against the run of play lead to a penalty corner that Hawks converted. However, it was too little to late, and Leighton came away 2-1 winners.
