This week Leighton made the long journey to Newbury looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat.
Leighton started strong taking the game to the home team and created a number of chances, with Gabbie unlucky to see her solo effort saved.
The half continued with end to end hockey but it was Newbury who managed to break the deadlock, Leighton unfortunately conceding a soft goal against the run of play despite regular goal line clearer Charlotte Ashton’s determined efforts!
Frustrated to find themselves a goal down at half time Leighton came out fighting in the second half, enjoying some great passages of play across the pitch. They continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded when Karmel smashed a sweet reverse strike in the corner of the goal.
Both teams battled it out for a winner but Leighton’s defence remained solid with player of the match Megan making some important interceptions. Leighton piled the pressure on the home team and came close to nicking a goal at the end but the final whistle came too soon!
A well fought draw.
