Leighton started confidently against bottom of the league Hawks. Good work across the pitch saw Leighton build the pressure and they were eventually rewarded with a perfectly executed penalty corner routine and strike from Karmel Brazier.
Leighton relaxed into their stride and made some good attacking moves using the left and right wings to full effect, however Oxford began to build their game and equalised on the counter attack against the run of play. Leighton responded well, and Karmel once again scored after taking on several defenders and the keeper to calmly slot the ball in the goal. A third goal followed, again Karmel with the finish, capitalising on a rebounded ball.
Unfortunately the half wasn’t over yet, and Oxford rallied themselves managing to stretch Leighton and breach the defence on two occasions making the half time score 3-3.
Leighton came out full of fight in the second half, Oxford remained calm and looked to use their strong transfer to their advantage, but Leighton were by far the more attacking of the two teams and Oxford defended for the majority of the second half. There were several near misses and some great goalkeeping from the Oxford keeper.
Eventually Leighton converted a penalty corner, another excellent strike from Karmel, to regain the lead and this time Oxford were unable to respond, Leighton taking all 3 points.
