Lathered in antibac

Dusting off our cobweb covered sticks and lathered in antibac, we kicked off the new season of LB ladies 2s hockey! Woo!

Our first pre season match against Aylesbury on a sunny September morning was filled with joy returning to the pitch and a few nerves which were quickly replaced with focus and excitement.

The team, lead by Co Captains Rhianna and Cookie, was comprised of new and returning players who worked incredibly well together.

The first goal was scored after 3 mins in when Mel crossed the ball to Katie who finished with a cracking strike.

The second goal was scored from a short corner injected by Shaz, struck by Cookie and deflected into the top corner by Florrie on the post.

The third goal was passed high up the pitch to Shaz on the right, who crossed in into a fast paced Lisa on the left, who slapped it into the goal behind the goalie.

There was supporting play throughout the game, Lisa, Hannah and Llinos on the left interchanging their inner, wing back and full back positions to provide support, cover, and respite. Rhianna and Florrie dribbling down the right hand side. Cookie holding and distributing the ball at midfield with Mel and Emma S posting up and tackling strong. The defending players spent as much time defending our D as they did attacking the other! The midfield held their own, tracking down players and working together to tackle effectively. Katie and Shaz played high to receive Lorna's fabulous 16' hit outs and create goal scoring opportunities. And Goalie Jo keeping our sheet clean with some great saves.

It was great to see how the team has implemented the new ethos in such a short space of time. This team played wonderfully together. Supporting each other, listening and communicating their positions on the pitch. I'm very excited to see what this season brings!
