Leighton Overcome Saffron Walden 3s

MATCH REPORT:

This Saturday Ladies 2s hosted a crucial mid-season match against Saffron Walden. The pressure was on to take the 3-points and secure a strong position going into the New Year; Leighton were focused and ready.

In the first 15 minutes Leighton pressed hard but Saffron’s fast pace and forward manoeuvres put early pressure on Leighton’s defence. Leighton continued to play their game, pressing hard and looking for passing opportunities and because of this, they started to take control. This well practiced format resulted in a fantastic worked goal by Sharon. From then on Leighton took charge and working the ball from the defence and midfield opened up some great opportunities and put increasing pressure on Saffron’s back line. Continued teamwork and determination resulted another by Sharon and then one from Emily Smith.

The coaching advice by Pete at half-time focused on Leighton pressing hard for an early second half goal. At the whistle, the team rallied round, and with a relentless attacking line in the opposition's D, the reward, another well managed goal by Emily, with debutant and P-O-M Nel making it five, Leighton achieved a comfortable lead.

Credit to Saffron who did not give up and their continued pressure produced two goals late in the second half but Leighton worked hard till the very end finishing with a 5-2 win. A fantastic finish to the first half of the season
