Saturday saw Leighton Buzzard Ladies 2s travel to Saffron Walden for their first league game of the Season. This was not your average game when the majority of the players were making their way to the game on their own or masked up sharing a car! We left our home town with sunny spirits to only find the weather was not so appealing there!
L2s started off really strong with their well positioned defence being impregnable and midfield linking lovely passes to the forward line.
SW were on the defence immediately and struggling to even get pass the halfway line as L2s continually attacked their D. We had so
many chances of leading the first half with strong play from Lisa, Cookie and Charlie but SWs GK was not having any of it! Just before the halftime whistle Rhianna picked up the ball in midfield and fired it into the D. So many attempts were had at burying the ball in the back of the net to eventually Shazza slapping it pass the GK. Not the prettiest of goals but a goals a goal!
Second half saw SW coming out strong with an obvious good team talk, but L2s still had their bellies fired up looking for their first win. This half was very much end to end with great saves from both GKs. Both teams had well planned short corners but still the score remained 1-0 to Leighton. With 10mins left Leighton were on the defence which led to a SW shot that eventually struck the back board for SW. With 1-1 now on the cards Leighton gave a final hard drive to get another goal from two further short corners but to no avail.
Final score was 1-1.
Player of the Match went to Charlie Dashwood.
